Rossi, Republicans hit Gregoire over latest unemployment numbers

Dino Rossi and state Republicans are pouncing on today's report stating that Washington's unemployment rate has risen to 6.0 percent, up from 5.6 percent in July and 4.5 percent in February, and just slightly below the national unemployment rate of 6.1 percent.

Washington State Republican Party Chair Luke Esser used the news to call Gov. Chris Gregoire "out of touch" for having said that Washington is the "envy of the nation."

Elway: Gregoire leads, and GOP Rossi outperforms Republican Rossi

The September edition of the Elway Poll shows Gov. Chris Gregoire leading her opponent Dino Rossi, but by how much depends on the description. When identified as "Republican Dino Rossi", Gregoire led by ten points, 51-41, but when respondents were told that their choice was "Dino Rossi, who prefers the GOP Party", he cut the lead to four, 48-44. With the numbers combined Gregoire leads by eight, 50-42.

PDC says pro-Rossi industry groups violated law

The Public Disclosure Commission decided earlier today to notify the office of Attorney General Rob McKenna of multiple violations of state campaign finance laws by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and the Building Industry Association of Washington's Member Services Corporation.

Rossi, Gregoire to appear in joint forum tonight

Gov. Chris Gregoire and her Republican challenger Dino Rossi will both appear at a forum sponsored by Arc of Spokane tonight in Spokane, Jim Camden has reported.

The event is merely a joint appearance of the two candidates where they will have a total of ten minutes apiece to answer three questions that were proposed to them in advance. It is not a debate, a series of which will begin between the two gubernatorial candidates this Saturday in Seattle.

State Dems weigh in on social issues

State Democrats went after Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi recently with a mocking press release comparing Rossi's policy on emergency contraception with a wistful Shakespearean sonnet.

"Shall I compare thee to a leaky bathtub?" the Washington State Democratic Party rhetorically asked in a press release in an attempt to show Rossi being thoughtless toward women's rights.

Rossi leads in latest poll, McCain closes gap

The latest poll from Rasmussen Reports shows Republican Dino Rossi leading Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire by six percentage points, 52 to 46. It marks the first time since February that Rossi has led in the monthly Rasmussen tracking poll, and the first time that he has broken the 50 percent barrier. Rossi had been mired at 43 percent for three consecutive months prior to the latest poll.

New Gregoire ad

Gov. Chris Gregoire's campaign released a new ad on television stations across the state yesterday. The ad, called "Staying True to Our Values", says that Washington is better prepared for a bad economy by touting the state's rainy day fund as well as the creation of new jobs and investment in future commodities like education and children's health care.

"I won't let tough times become an excuse for sacrificing what matters most to our families," Gregoire narrates in the video. "That is what this election is all about."

Rossi takes narrow polling lead

The latest SurveyUSA poll shows Republican Dino Rossi leading Gov. Chris Gregoire by one point, 48-47. This poll, one of six monthly polls taken by Survey USA, shows a major variation from earlier polling among genders. Early polling showed Gregoire with an large lead among women and Rossi with a similar margin among men, but this poll, conducted September 4 through September 6, shows Rossi leading by only two among men, and a dead heat among women.
